What Is Cold Laser Treatment?
Laser treatment, which is also called Low-Level Laser Treatment (LLLT), is a modality that uses specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and is thought to help speed up the healing process. Cold laser treatment can be used on patients who suffer from various acute and chronic conditions of the spine and extremities to help reduce pain and inflammation and increase function.
At Gasdorf Family Chiropractic, we use cold laser treatment to reduce inflammation, decrease pain and facilitate faster healing in patients with acute conditions like sprains and strains. It’s not a stand-alone treatment, but something we use in conjunction with chiropractic to support and augment your healing.
Generally, we use other techniques for patients with chronic pain conditions. However, we may use cold laser for certain chronic conditions as well.
A small handheld device is used during each session. Various wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted area such as the knee or low back. The body tissue then absorbs the light, and the red and near-infrared light produce a reaction. The damaged cells respond with a physiological reaction that promotes regeneration and healing.
Whatever your injury or condition, we design a care plan specifically for your needs and to help you reach—or exceed—your functional goals. We combine a variety of healing techniques as needed to help your body create new, healthy neural patterns. As an adjunct, cold laser treatment can help provide immediate pain relief and faster healing to acute injuries such as ankle sprains, neck and back pain, and more.
